2-week ceasefire, Starmer travels to the Middle East: The agreement, a moment of relief for the region and the world

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is travelling to the Middle East this morning - after US President Donald Trump secured a two-week ceasefire overnight.
The Prime Minister is on a visit to the Persian Gulf, where he will meet with RAF teams protecting allied airspace, before addressing troops.
This comes after the US agreed to a temporary ceasefire with Iran, in an attempt to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil and gas shipments.
In his first comments on the deal, Sir Keir Starmer said: “I welcome the ceasefire agreement reached overnight, which will bring a moment of relief to the region and the world. Together with our partners we must do everything we can to support and preserve this ceasefire, turn it into a lasting agreement and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.”
