Russian military plane crashes near Moscow, no survivors

The crew members of a Russian An-22 military transport plane that crashed in the Ivanovo region, northeast of Moscow, were all killed in the accident.

This was announced today by the Russian Investigative Committee, but without specifying the number of people on board.

In an earlier statement, the Russian Defense Ministry stressed that "during a test flight, after repair work, an An-22 military transport aircraft crashed, the plane fell into an uninhabited area."

Earlier, an unidentified rescue services source told Russian news agency TASS that seven people may have been on board the plane.

So far, Russian authorities have not said whether the incident could be linked to the armed conflict in Ukraine.
