BBC: Signals that Trump may continue the war until Tehran capitulates

By insisting on "unconditional surrender" from the Iranian regime, Donald Trump appears to be ruling out the possibility of a negotiated solution that could bring the war to a swift conclusion.

When he launched the first attacks on Iran, Trump speculated that the conflict could end in two or three days if Iran accepted a deal or could last for four to five weeks.

But a reaction from President Trump on social media signals that the US intends to continue the war until the government in Tehran completely capitulates.

Trump is also insisting that he should have a role in deciding who becomes Iran's next supreme leader.

He has said he should be involved in the nomination, saying that "after... selecting a great and acceptable leader... America will work to make Iran great again."

It remains to be seen how the situation in the Middle East will escalate and whether a solution to this conflict will be reached.
