EU approves €20 million in military aid for Moldova

European Union (EU) ambassadors will give the green light on April 9th for the bloc's largest military aid package to date for Moldova, worth 20 million euros.
This decision is important because Moldova is a constitutionally neutral country and in the past the EU has only provided it with assistance that was considered "non-lethal", such as military vehicles, aerial surveillance, and equipment to strengthen cybersecurity.
That changed last year, when Brussels offered €9 million for short-range missiles for air defense systems. Now, the EU is doubling that amount.
The approval of these measures comes just a week after the same EU ambassadors approved another financial aid package to complement this first one.
The other package, worth 40 million euros, is what the bloc calls non-lethal military assistance. Of this amount, half will be used to buy about 33 high-mobility tactical vehicles to replace aging Soviet-type vehicles.
While the other 20 million Euros are for a short-range tactical air defense integration system, which will essentially enable the trouble-free operation of the launchers and missiles offered in the "lethal" package.
