EU prepares 'Plan B'/ Chief diplomat Kaja Kallas: If Trump withdraws from talks on Ukraine, then...

The European Union is preparing a “Plan B” for how to maintain economic sanctions against Russia in the event that the Trump administration abandons peace talks on Ukraine and seeks rapprochement with Moscow, the EU’s high representative for foreign and security policy, Kaja Kallas, told the Financial Times.
"We are seeing signs that they are thinking about whether they should abandon Ukraine and not try to reach an agreement with the Russians, because it is difficult," the EU high representative told the Financial Times.
"There is also a plan B, but we have to work on plan A; otherwise we focus on plan B and then this could happen," she told the newspaper, adding that "talks are underway with Washington and other international partners to ensure that the Western sanctions regime remains effective and intact, despite possible changes in the US stance on the conflict involving Russia and Ukraine."
The EU's move to develop a "Plan B" underscores the bloc's commitment to maintaining pressure on Russia through sanctions.
