Citizenship documents for US elections, court partially rejects Trump's
A federal judge has partially blocked an executive order by Donald Trump that would have required additional citizenship documentation for US citizens registering to vote.

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly decided to block the provision that would have changed the federal voter registration form, arguing that the Constitution gives Congress and the states, not the President, the right to regulate federal elections.

"The President does not have the authority to bypass the legislative process of Congress by executive order," the decision states.

The judge also blocked another part of the order that required federal agencies to verify a person's citizenship before providing them with a voter registration form.

The issue has been raised by nonpartisan organizations and political parties like the Democratic Party, which challenge the order's measures, including efforts to punish states that accept mail-in ballots after Election Day.

It is emphasized that a decision has not yet been made on the other parts of the order, stating that they are under review by other courts or are premature for a decision.
