Ebola alerts US, quarantine center opens in Kenya

The United States is planning to open a quarantine center in Kenya for suspected or confirmed Ebola cases, primarily for American citizens leaving the Democratic Republic of Congo, as the epidemic continues to spread.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the center is still awaiting approval from Kenyan authorities. Its objective will be to isolate and monitor people exposed to the virus without the need to immediately transport them to the United States. Meanwhile, US authorities have increased screening measures for travelers coming from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan, redirecting them for health checks at Dulles International Airport in Washington.
According to official data, over 900 suspected Ebola cases and around 220 suspected deaths have been recorded so far.
However, experts believe the real figures could be much higher due to difficulties on the ground. The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that armed conflicts in eastern Congo are severely hampering efforts to control the epidemic.
According to him, there is still no approved vaccine or treatment for the Bundibugyo variant of the Ebola virus, while the humanitarian situation is worsening due to massive population displacements and attacks on health institutions.
Tedros called for an immediate ceasefire in conflict zones so that medical teams can have safe access and continue tracking cases and treating those infected.
