Europe comes to the aid of Syria, the EU grants 2.5 billion euros in aid for 2025 and 2026

The EU will provide 2.5 billion euros in aid in 2025 and 2026 for Syria's economic recovery and reconstruction, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced today, speaking at an EU donors' conference.
"The European Union is increasing its commitment to Syrians in the country and in the region to almost 2.5 billion euros for 2025 and 2026. We call on everyone here today to do the same because at this critical moment, the people of Syria need us more than ever," von der Leyen said.
Shortly before the start of the 9th International Conference in Support of Syria, officially represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country's transitional government, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, referred to the issue of Syria, emphasizing that the people of Syria need hope and that Europe will closely monitor developments in the country.
Kaja Kallas spoke about the issue of “involvement in government formation,” and as she explained, “regional destabilization concerns us.” The EU High Representative spoke about the EU’s approach to the issue of Syria.
"We want to see the right steps from the Syrian side, we are also ready to take steps on our side," Kallas said.
In response to journalists' questions, after the conclusion of the Foreign Affairs Council, regarding the violent events in Syria, she replied that "if we want to prevent further violence, we must give the people of Syria hope that also comes from access to banking services."
"This means that salaries can be paid, companies can invest and grow. That is why we are currently moving forward with our plan to lift sanctions. But of course we are closely monitoring the actions of the Syrian government," she concluded, stressing that Europe is awaiting prosecutions for "massacres in coastal areas."
