What is known about the B-21 Raider, the new American "invisible"

For the first time in more than 30 years, the US Air Force is unveiling the new B-21 Raider stealth fighter jet.

The long-range strategic bomber was designed to replace the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit aircraft.

It is said that more than 25 billion dollars were allocated from the budget of the Air Force in 2010 for the design of this aircraft, and Northrop Grumman worked on its production.

The B-2 Spirit bomber, which has been in production for 34 years, was a plane ahead of its generation, made up of advanced materials that made it nearly "invisible" to radar, allowing it to fly missions with long range in hostile environments. Aircraft such as the B-1 and B-52 were much less likely to succeed in such missions.

Undetected, the B-2 could destroy targets deep in enemy territory without warning.

So what makes its successor, the B-21, special?

The program to build the aircraft was highly secretive, and Northrop Grumman released few details about the project. According to them, it is clear that the B-21 Raider has many design elements of its predecessor, such as the wing concept with integrated engines and an effective configuration in avoiding radars. However, the space for cargo, bombs and missiles is almost halved.

The aircraft is not particularly fast like its predecessor, but it is significantly cheaper, both to buy and to maintain. Maintenance of the B-2 aircraft was prohibitively expensive.

Although the "stealth" technology is the main advantage of this aircraft, it is not the only one. The US military is trying to build a powerful network of long-range sensors and attack platforms that can transmit large amounts of data to the enemy.

The B-21 fits into this strategic network, as it has the ability to gather intelligence on an enemy or area and launch strikes. In other words, it can collect and rely on information from friendly aircraft, satellites and radars, but it can also destroy targets.

Long-range strikes may be the primary mission of this aircraft, which will be able to gather and share intelligence that will help guide its weapons and destroy multiple targets. In short, its "brain" is the most valuable feature of the aircraft.

It can also be operated without a human crew and will be able to carry the latest long-range "stealth" missiles, such as JASSM missiles, as well as other conventional and nuclear weapons.

There are reports that progress in the development of new radars will not allow this aircraft to fly undetected. China claims to have a radar that can detect such aircraft, however, Western experts refute such a claim.

For decades, radar-invisible aircraft have dominated the skies, so with such a radar, the US's significant advantage would disappear.

The public unveiling of the B-21 marks the beginning of years of development and refinement as the aircraft will undergo numerous tests, first on the ground and then in the air in various conditions, before finally joining the US Air Force.

Therefore, China has accelerated research to build its own Xian H-20 aircraft, so that it can compete with the US military.
