Babies with severed heads and children burning alive, Israel's carnage in

Newborns burned alive, children with severed heads and the bodies of civilians scattered in tents housing displaced Palestinians, this is the aftermath of Israel's war in Gaza.

At least 35 people were killed in the "barbaric" attacks on a refugee camp in the town of Rafah, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The makeshift shelters were supposed to be safe havens for civilians, yet they became targets of 'inhumane' violence over the weekend.

Footage shared by journalists on the ground shows bodies covered in ash on the ground, women and children dismembered and burned alive. A video circulating online showed a man carrying the body of a newborn with its head severed and dismembered.

People can be seen trying to put out the flames with water. The attack came hours after Hamas' first rocket attack on Tel Aviv and just two days after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to halt operations in Rafah.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was investigating reports of an attack that caused fires and injured civilians, but claimed it hit a Hamas facility. Confirming a precise strike in the Tal as Sultan neighborhood, northwest of Rafah, the IDF claimed the attack was 'based on accurate intelligence'.

But Palestinian officials and aid workers claim that Israel's strikes hit about 10 centers housing refugees displaced from other parts of Gaza by the IDF occupation. ActionAid, a charity working on the ground in Gaza, claimed eight Israeli rockets hit makeshift shelters housing displaced people.

One of its aid workers said: Within seconds, the IDF bombarded a tent area in Rafah with more than 8 rockets. There are no rocks or roofs, just sheet metal and nylon. Hundreds of people thought they were sleeping safely and would not die, so they went to these areas and lived there to escape death. Now dozens of people are dying and dozens or even hundreds of people or more are injured, but no one knows yet. Not to mention the total burning of everything people own.

The ICJ ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah following a request from South Africa accusing it of genocide.
