Greece on alert from "crime tourists", 'hawkers' steal 45

Officials from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DAOE) have managed to shed light on the theft of 45 watches worth 1.5 million euros from the home of a well-known shipping magnate.

As the investigation revealed, behind the giant theft is a gang of Chileans (crime tourists), who managed to force their way into the businessman's house on December 13, 2025 and carry out a robbery.

Specifically, the perpetrators jumped the yard fence, broke the balcony door without leaving any traces of a burglary, and entered the house.

They then searched a small room in the bedroom and seized 45 wristwatches from luxury brands such as “ROLEX”, “PATEK PHILIPPE”, “AUDEMARS PIGUET”, “VACHERON CONSTANTIN”, “CVSTOS”, etc., including handmade watches produced exclusively for the owner and his relatives, with a total value of 1.5 million euros.

The police investigation revealed that the accused belong to a group of thieves who landed in Athens, with the aim of carrying out targeted attacks on luxury homes. They came as tourists, but their aim was theft and robbery. The mastermind of the crime is suspected to be a prisoner who gave orders from his cell.

The main core includes three people aged 40, 33 and 26, while a 23-year-old also participated in a supporting role.

As emerged from the preliminary investigation, members of the network systematically traveled to Greece from Schengen countries, staying for short periods of time and operating with a strictly organized plan.

They used rented vehicles, forged documents, masks and gloves, while residing in short-term rental premises that were declared to third parties.
