Uganda closes border with Congo due to Ebola outbreak, number of infected increases

Authorities in Uganda have announced the immediate closure of the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo due to the spread of the Ebola virus, as the number of cases has reached around 1,000.
According to international media, the decision was taken by the local Ebola task force following an increase in cases of Ugandan health workers suspected of being exposed to the virus from Congolese patients who had crossed the border before the official declaration of the outbreak on May 15.
This time it is a rare variant of the virus, known as "Bundibugyo", for which there are still no confirmed vaccines or treatments.
Health authorities are expressing great concern about the possible spread of the virus in the region.
