Woman escapes from North Korea and sues Kim Jong Un: They imprisoned me, beat me and raped me

A woman who escaped from North Korea has sued Kim Jong-un and other officials for torture and sexual violence during her time in prison.
Choi Min-kyung, who has lived in South Korea for more than a decade, is seeking compensation for the trauma and abuse she has endured. She was forcibly repatriated four times from China and suffered physical and psychological torture during her imprisonment in 2008.
Her lawsuit alleges severe beatings, sexual violence and hours of inhumane treatment. This is the first time a North Korean defector has filed criminal and civil lawsuits in South Korean courts against the North Korean regime.
Her lawyers are also using the case as a basis for filing a complaint with the UN and the International Criminal Court. The lawsuit alleges direct responsibility for Kim Jong-un's crimes committed under his leadership. Although enforcement of a ruling is unlikely, the case has great symbolic and legal significance.
