Panic has been caused in Turkey by the large 6.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Istanbul, as well as the powerful aftershocks that followed.

In this context, the city's governor, Davut Gül, went to the headquarters of the Emergency and Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) to be informed about the progress of the investigations.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued by his office, it was announced that 151 people were injured after, during the major earthquake, they panicked and jumped from heights.

"As of 3:30 pm, there have been no negative developments due to the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that have affected the lives of citizens, energy supply, infrastructure, natural gas supply, drinking water or the sewage system. There has been no loss of life," the announcement said.

It was also added: " The treatment of 151 citizens who were injured by jumping from a height in panic continues in hospitals, and none of them are in danger of life. There is no damage to housing in the city. An abandoned building collapsed in the Fatih neighborhood, but there were no victims or injuries. The work of the relevant units on the ground continues."
