Devastating earthquake in Myanmar! The number of victims increases: 144 dead and

The death toll from the devastating earthquake that shook Myanmar this morning is rising.

According to updated data from the earthquake, 144 deaths and 732 injuries have been recorded so far, Myanmar state media reports.

It is also reported that dozens of other people are trapped under the rubble of the building.

Witnesses said parts of the historic Royal Palace in Mandalay were badly damaged.

In Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, the injured are being helped by ambulances and passersby on the street and taken to hospital.

The shock was also felt strongly in Bangkok, the capital of neighboring Thailand, where a 30-story skyscraper under construction in the Chatuchak area collapsed.

Here, 43 workers are trapped under the rubble and rescue teams are working to pull them out alive. There are also reports of injuries from the collapse.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra cut short a visit to the southern island of Phuket and, after holding an emergency meeting, declared a state of emergency in Bangkok.

Shallow earthquakes like this are more dangerous than deeper ones because they release more energy closer to the Earth's surface, causing stronger shaking and more damage to structures.
