ISRAEL - Israeli armed forces bombed western Syria on Friday, according to a statement from the Israeli military and Syrian media, killing at least one civilian, according to information from the SANA news agency, in the first such attack in the country in almost a month.
"A raid carried out by Israeli warplanes targeted facilities near the village of Zama in southern Latakia," state television reported, although Damascus announced earlier this month that it would begin indirect talks with Israel to ease tensions between the two countries.
The Syrian state news agency SANA clarified that a civilian was killed in an airstrike by the Israeli occupation targeting the outskirts of Zama.
On the other hand, the Israeli armed forces announced that they struck weapons depots containing missiles, which they saw as a threat to freedom of navigation, both international and Israeli, in the Latakia region, in western Syria.
"Parts of the surface-to-air missiles were targeted in the Latakia region ," they added, stating that they will continue to act to preserve their freedom of action in the region and will take measures against any threat against the state of Israel and its citizens.
