Israel announces killing of top Hamas commander: Threatens stability of Gaza ceasefire

Israel's killing of a senior Hamas commander threatens the sustainability of the ceasefire in Gaza, the militant group's chief negotiator said on Sunday, calling on US President Donald Trump to demand that Israel implement the terms of the ceasefire.

Thousands of Hamas supporters gathered in downtown Gaza City for a funeral for senior commander Raed Saed and three associates killed with him on Saturday, Reuters reports.

In a televised speech, Hamas's chief negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, who lives in exile, confirmed the killing of Hamas's most senior figure since the ceasefire.

"The continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement... and the recent killings targeting Saeed and others threaten the sustainability of the agreement," Hayya said.
