Bad news for Bayern Munich and its legendary captain, Manuel Neuer.

The German goalkeeper was forced off the pitch during the 2-2 draw against Mainz in the Bundesliga on Sunday due to an injury to the back of his right thigh.

The medical examination confirmed an injury to the right ischio-crural muscle, which will keep Neuer away from the field for an undetermined amount of time.

The Bavarian club announced that Neuer will definitely miss the upcoming championship match against Heidenheim, while the medical staff will assess his recovery day by day.

In the absence of the German number 1, coach Vincent Kompany can entrust the goal to youngster Jonas Urbig, 22, who has so far recorded two clean sheets in his two Bundesliga appearances this season.
