Croatia hit by storm surges of up to 6 meters in the Adriatic

Croatia experienced a powerful storm on Wednesday, which swept the region with strong winds and high waves. Southerly winds in the central and northern Adriatic were created by a warm air current, which added to the difficulties of maritime transport.
According to information from the Split Marine Hydrometeorological Center, these winds have caused waves that can reach up to six meters high, making sea travel dangerous, especially in the central and northern Adriatic.
These conditions are expected to worsen during the afternoon and evening, when strong storms will pass through the south of the country, increasing wind speeds to over 100 kilometers per hour. This will lead to the creation of high waves and very dangerous for maritime activities. Also, in the southern Adriatic, southerly winds are expected to cause waves that can reach up to four meters high.
As a result, all ferry lines connecting Split to the islands have been suspended, according to a statement from the Jadrolinija office, which manages maritime transport in the region. The uncertainty created by the winds and waves has prompted authorities to take measures to protect passengers and ships, by suspending ferry operations.
The situation may worsen in the coming hours, and authorities are carefully monitoring developments, advising citizens and travelers to be cautious and avoid traveling to areas affected by the storm.
