Over $3 million in unpaid taxes, former MMA star flees Russia
Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has left Russia as he reportedly took United Arab Emirates citizenship, possibly for tax purposes.

Online news media "Mash.ru" was the first to confirm these allegations, which refer to official sources from the Russian government. According to them, Khabib is being investigated for not paying his business taxes, worth 3.3 million dollars.

After preliminary examinations of these businesses of the former Russian fighter, irregularities in the documents were discovered, leading to a full audit. Now, the government has allegedly frozen several business bank accounts related to Khabib's businesses, including his Eagle FC promotion and charity fund.

Obtaining UAE citizenship would allow Khabib to avoid paying taxes in Russia, as UAE residents do not pay income tax.

The move is seen as a significant change for the former UFC champion and is likely to be motivated by the substantial tax issues he is facing in Russia.

While Khabib's team has denied allegations of tax debt, reports from Russian journalists and actions taken by Russian tax authorities suggest that taking UAE citizenship is a strategic move by Khabib to address his financial and legal challenges in Russia .
