UN emergency meeting/ Guterres: We condemn further escalation of the conflict

The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting following the US attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities.
The UN Secretary-General takes the floor first in New York, calling the US attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities a dangerous turn in a region already in trouble.
Antonio Guterres said he condemns any military escalation in the Middle East.
"The population of the region cannot endure another cycle of destruction," he stressed.
America's UN Ambassador Dorothy Shea said Iran has long concealed its nuclear weapons program and obstructed recent nuclear talks.
She urged the Security Council to call on Iran to end its efforts to eliminate Israel and to halt its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, the UK representative to the UN said that this is a defining moment for the Middle East.
She called on Iran to show restraint and for all parties to return to the negotiating table and find a diplomatic solution.
The head of the UN nuclear watchdog agency, Rafael Grossi, urged Israel and Iran to cease attacks to allow inspectors to carry out their work in Iran.
"We have a window of opportunity to return to dialogue and diplomacy," Grossi said.
On the other hand, Russia's ambassador to the UN has condemned the US attacks on Iran as irresponsible, dangerous and provocative.
He said that America has "opened Pandora's box" and that no one knows what new disasters it will bring.
