Some of the most prominent news agencies and media outlets in the United States have been announced as winners of this year's Pulitzer Prizes, which were announced today.

The Pulitzer Prizes, awarded annually, are considered the highest honor in American journalism, with particular importance for the "Public Service" category.

This year, the top award in this category was given to the investigative platform ProPublica , for its work in the public interest.

Reuters won the Pulitzer Prize for "Investigative Journalism" thanks to a series of articles that revealed the international trade chain of chemicals used to produce fentanyl, a drug extremely widespread in the US, which has caused the deaths of an estimated 450,000 Americans.

In the "International Reporting" category, the award was given to The New York Times, while The Washington Post was recognized for its coverage of extraordinary events in the "Breaking News" category.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal received the award for "Inside Reporting."

The Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded since 1917 and were established based on the will of Hungarian-American publisher Joseph Pulitzer, who died in 1911.

He left an important legacy for the School of Journalism at Columbia University in the USA, where these awards are presented each year.
