Doctor suspected of intentionally killing 15 patients in Berlin, investigation: He had pleasure

A 40-year-old doctor in Berlin has been put at the center of a major scandal after allegations of killing 15 of his patients with a deadly cocktail of medications.
German prosecutors have stated that the doctor, identified as Johannes M., allegedly acted because he had a "lust for murder."
According to authorities, the victims – 12 women and 3 men – were aged between 25 and 94 and died between September 2021 and July 2024.
Investigators say the doctor administered anesthetics and muscle relaxants to the patients without their knowledge or consent.
The substances used caused paralysis of the respiratory muscles, leading to respiratory arrest and death within minutes.
In five cases, he is suspected of setting fire to the victims' homes to hide the crimes – attempts that in some cases were unsuccessful.
According to the shocking details of the prosecution's file, on July 8, 2024, the doctor allegedly murdered two patients on the same day: a 75-year-old man in Kreuzberg in the morning, and a 76-year-old woman in the Neukölln neighborhood in the afternoon.
When he failed to set the planned fire at the second victim's apartment, he reportedly contacted a relative of hers, claiming he was getting no answer at the door.
Johannes M. was initially arrested in August 2024, suspected of manslaughter on four counts. But investigations have revealed a much larger number of victims and deep suspicions of premeditated murder. Prosecutors now describe him as a person with a pure criminal motive, without any personal gain – simply a “lust for murder.”
A special team of investigators has identified 395 suspicious cases in which the accused may have been involved. So far, in 95 cases the initial suspicion has been confirmed, while 75 others are still under investigation.
Twelve exhumations have been conducted to further investigate the manner of death, while five more exhumations are planned.
The case comes as a nurse in Aachen is on trial for murdering nine patients by injecting them with excessive doses of sedatives to “reduce the workload on the night shift.” She had described herself as a “mistress of life and death.”
