Mysterious power outage in Britain, hours before blackout in Spain and Portugal

Unexpected faults at power plants hit Britain's power system hours before Spain and Portugal were plunged into darkness by widespread power cuts, the Mail Online revealed today.
The control room staff of the National Energy System Operator (Neso) noticed unusual activity on two occasions on Sunday – early in the morning and in the evening.
The first incident involved a sudden power frequency deviation at 2am due to a shutdown at the Keadby 2 natural gas-fired power station in Lincolnshire, the Telegraph reported. It was followed by an unexplained fault in the Viking Link, a supply cable that stretches for almost 800 kilometres between Britain and Denmark.
The power frequency was diverted again at 6pm, but the cause remains unknown – and officials from Neso, which manages the British power grid, are investigating the matter.
However, Neso stated that there is no evidence at this stage that these outages are linked to each other or to the system collapse that occurred on Monday in Spain, Portugal and the south of France.
A Neso spokesperson told MailOnline:
"We continue to review the events of the weekend. However, it is extremely unlikely that these events are linked to each other or to the events on the European electricity grid on Monday. The UK electricity grid was not affected by the incident on the European electricity grid on Monday."
