An Air India plane crashed today near Ahmedabad airport, just minutes after taking off on a flight bound for London.
Flight AI171, which was en route to Gatwick Airport, suffered a fatal accident, causing a serious tragedy. There were 244 people on board, including 232 passengers, 10 crew members and 2 pilots.
According to foreign media reports, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a doctors' dormitory near the airport, causing significant damage and multiple casualties, although the exact toll has not yet been officially confirmed.
According to local authorities, emergency teams immediately arrived at the scene and search and rescue operations are ongoing. No weather problems were reported at the time of the plane's takeoff, which has led experts to suspect multiple bird strikes as a possible cause of the crash.
Flight expert Marco Chan confirmed that the weather was good and there were no climatic factors that would have affected the incident. Meanwhile, former pilot Saurabh Bhatnagar stressed that a bird strike could have damaged both engines, causing the plane to lose power shortly after takeoff. The pilot of the plane had issued an emergency "Mayday" signal before the crash.
Aviation analyst Sanjay Lazar added that the Dreamliner model had no history of serious technical problems, making a bird strike the most likely scenario.
