WHO sends emergency medical supplies to Iran after deadly outbreak
The World Health Organization (WHO) has sent emergency medical supplies to Iran to help treat those injured in a recent deadly explosion, the agency's chief announced.
"Our thoughts are with the people in Iran affected by the tragic outbreak. Our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X.
65 people were killed and more than 1,200 injured when a powerful explosion ripped through containers and rocked the surrounding area at the port of Bandar Abbas.
Images from the area show part of the port severely damaged. No details have been released on the cause of the explosion. However, Iranian authorities say they have not yet received any evidence to suggest the explosion was an act of sabotage.
