A terrifying incident occurred Saturday afternoon at Denver International Airport, where passengers on an American Airlines plane were forced to evacuate due to a malfunction during takeoff.

According to local authorities, the incident occurred on board flight AA3023 bound for Miami International Airport while the plane was still on the runway. The Denver Fire Department confirmed that the malfunction occurred on the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft at around 2:45 p.m. local time.

There were 173 passengers and six crew members on board, all of whom were successfully evacuated. One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries, the airline said.

Footage posted on social media showed the moment of evacuation via emergency slides, while smoke and flames appeared to be coming from the rear of the plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed in a statement that the crew had reported a possible problem with the landing gear during takeoff, forcing the emergency intervention.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident. Fortunately, no serious consequences have been reported, but the situation has caused panic on board and further delays in airport operations.
