The European Parliament bans the sale of potato chips in large packaging bags: It takes more product than air
Bags of potato chips filled with air, packaging with more plastic than product, big boxes but little content, all this will remain in history, said Croatian MEP Biljana Borzan.
"Approximately 73 percent of EU citizens say that they have been deceived by the large packaging of products. That is, even though the amount is written on the product, consumers often estimate the amount of content 'on the top' and when they get home they are unpleasantly surprised. I have received many questions from citizens about products such as chips, even products that come in bottles", says Borzan.
Therefore, the European Parliament confirmed the ban on packaging whose sole purpose is to mislead the consumer about the quantity of the product itself, such as unnecessary layers of packaging.
" The average resident of the EU throws away about 188.7 kg of packaging waste, while in Croatia about 75 kg is thrown away, of which only a small part is recycled. With this provision, we will ensure that citizens get the most for their money, but also protect the environment", concludes Borzan.
