Beijing denies Trump: China and US have no negotiations on tariffs

Beijing has rushed to strongly refute Donald Trump, through the Chinese embassy in Washington.

"China and the US have NO consultations or negotiations on #tariffs. The US should stop creating confusion," the Chinese embassy said in a message on X (formerly Twitter).

"We are in talks with China about tariffs"

The US president made the statement that the US and Chinese governments are in talks about a tariff agreement and that Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited him, in an interview with Time magazine, on the occasion of the conclusion of the first 100 days of his mandate in the Oval Office.

Trump remains adamant that tariffs are necessary, adding that he would consider it a "total victory" if the US continued to have tariffs of up to 50% on foreign imports a year from now.

"I don't think that's a sign of weakness on his part," Trump said of Xi, adding that he expects to have a full list of trade deals in the next three to four weeks. " There's a number they'll be comfortable with," Trump added. "But you can't let them make a trillion dollars off of us ," he concluded.
