Saudi Arabia's 'sleeping prince' turns 36, has been in a coma for nearly 20 years

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, known in the Arab world as the “Sleeping Prince” after being in a coma for more than two decades, turned 36 last Friday. The Saudi king has been in a prolonged state of unconsciousness since 2005, when he was seriously injured in a car accident in London.
On April 18, on the occasion of his 36th birthday, social networks were flooded with congratulations, prayers and messages of hope for the prince, who, according to Roya News, has emerged as a symbol of unwavering faith for millions of people.
His mother, Princess Reema bin Talal, posted on X (formerly Twitter) photos of her son from his childhood and most recent moments, writing in the caption: " My beloved Al-Waleed bin Khaled, 21 years after (the accident) you remain present in our hearts and in the prayers of all those who love you. My Lord, heal your weak servant and the earth."

His last recorded movements were in 2019, when he reportedly responded with small movements, such as raising a finger or slightly moving his head. Despite these encouraging signs, however, the young man never came out of the coma.
Prince Al-Waleed is being treated at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, under the supervision of a specialized medical team.
