Moscow- When the church bell rang, the coffin of Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition leader, was taken out of the church and put back in the car.
The crowd once again called his name: "Navalny! Navalny!" and again shouted: "Thank you Alexei!".
People began to throw roses and red carnations in the streets and shout: "We will not forget you!"
The hearse doors closed and applause erupted. Masked police watched as the hearse drove to the cemetery.
As the coffin was taken out of the church, people in the crowd could be seen throwing flowers at the hearse carrying the coffin of the Russian opposition leader.
Some voices were heard exclaiming "executioners!", "Russia will be free!" and "No to war!"

The BBC reports that the Amer were not allowed to film the funeral ceremony inside the church. However, the people who attended were definitely able to take pictures. A photo, widely shared on social networks, shows Navalny's open coffin.
This is common in the Russian Orthodox tradition and means that mourners can see and touch the face of the deceased.
In the photo, which is at the bottom of this post, Navalny is seen lying in his coffin, covered in red and white roses.
He is surrounded by people - including his mother, Lyudmila, and his father, Anatoliy - holding candles. An Orthodox priest stands nearby.

Foreign diplomats, including the German, French and American ambassadors, today went to pay their respects to Alexei Navalny at the church where his coffin was laid.

Grieving Russians have come together in an act of defiance and bravery
Hundreds and possibly thousands of people turned out today to say goodbye to the late Russian opposition leader.
This is an act of bravery and defiance in itself, given that hundreds of people were arrested earlier in the spontaneous memorials that appeared across Russia in the immediate aftermath of Alexei Navalny's death two weeks ago.
They are aware of the possibility of arrest and have not presented any political slogans.
So far there have been no reports of arrests.
