Citizens 'burn' Belgrade, come out in support of students

Thousands of citizens gathered in the center of Belgrade to support the students' demand for early parliamentary elections in Serbia. The protest was organized by the students themselves, who gave the Serbian government an ultimatum to dissolve parliament by 9:00 p.m. and call new elections.

With the deadline passed and no official response, the students declared that “the protest is no longer a student protest,” calling on citizens to take their fate into their own hands. Thousands of protesters marched towards the presidency, chanting against President Aleksandar Vučić.
Police intervened in large numbers and used stun grenades to disperse the crowd. The situation remains tense around the presidential building, while special forces in armored vehicles have been deployed on the streets of the capital.
