The case of Noelia Castillo, the Spanish Minister of Health responds to Trump: Don't interfere anywhere!
Spanish Health Minister Monica Garcia strongly criticized a New York Post report that claimed the Trump administration had requested information about the case of 25-year-old paraplegic Noelia Castillo Ramos, who died on March 26 in Barcelona through euthanasia after a two-year legal battle against her father's wishes. The report also said that the woman had expressed a different opinion in recent hours, which sources said was ignored.
However, the Health Ministry has denied any communication from the United States on the case. Garcia stressed that “Spain is a serious country, with a strong health system and a legal framework that protects and cares for all people, including those who choose to seek help to die with dignity within a legal framework, evaluated by clinical committees and approved by the courts.”
Tensions between the Spanish government and the US administration have increased after the US refused to allow the use of Spanish bases and airspace for military operations in Iran. Commentators see this pressure as an opportunity for further interference in legal matters involving the Socialist Party and the family of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Noelia Castillo was paraplegic after a suicide attempt and a victim of sexual assault. Spain, one of the few European countries to legalize euthanasia in 2021, had recorded 1,123 cases of euthanasia by the end of 2024.
