However, he stressed that he did not apologize for the joke itself.
Kimmel focused more on the incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where a shooting incident caused tension and fear among attendees. He expressed regret for the situation, saying it was a traumatic experience despite there being no casualties.
"I'm sorry that you and everyone in that room went through such a situation," he said during his monologue, adding that a joke made a few days ago cannot be related to such serious events.
The backlash came after both Melania Trump and President Donald Trump sharply criticized his statements, calling them inappropriate. Trump even demanded that Kimmel leave television.
