US Homeland Security Secretary's bag stolen while dining at restaurant...

An unusual incident occurred on Sunday evening at a restaurant in Washington, DC, where Kristi Noem, US Secretary of Homeland Security, had her purse stolen by an unknown person while she was dining with her family.

Sources confirmed to NBC News that the bag contained $3,000, an identification card that allows access to secure government buildings, as well as other personal documents such as a passport, credit cards, blank checks and keys.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM when a man wearing a medical mask entered the restaurant and approached the table where Ms. Noem was.

According to security camera footage, he sat down next to her, moved the chair closer and, with a stealthy movement, pulled the bag towards him using his foot, then hid it under his jacket and left the bar.

At the time of the incident, there were at least two Secret Service agents in the restaurant, positioned between Ms. Noem and the main door; however, the theft occurred without anyone stopping it in real time.

Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said Noem was carrying cash as the entire family was in town to celebrate Easter and participate in community activities.

It is currently unknown whether Ms. Noem was the perpetrator's intended target while investigators are trying to determine whether the robber knew the victim's identity.

When asked about the incident, Ms. Noem said: “I don’t think I can comment yet. It’s not resolved yet.” She confirmed that the Secret Service is aware but has not yet had a conversation with agents about what happened.

Ms. Noem, a supporter of former President Donald Trump's policies, is known for her tough stances against illegal immigration and support for strengthening the US-Mexico border.
