"Now I run the world", Trump's candid confession: No one can stop me
This has plunged the administration into scandal, but according to other correspondents who also participated in the interview, Trump was once again eager to make a "bargain" with them.
"If he liked the article we were going to write, then he could talk to us again," said the journalists of "The Atlantic."
Reporters had been hearing for weeks, both inside and outside the White House, that Trump was having more fun this time as US president. And they didn't hesitate to ask him directly. The answer was surprising:
“'I'm having a lot of fun, considering what I do. You know what I do is such a serious thing. I'll honestly tell you that the first time, I had two things to do – run the country and survive. I'm not kidding. I had all these corrupt people at my feet. The second time, things are different, because I'm running the country and the world. Nobody can stop me.”
When Trump was asked about rumors that he had instructed the Justice Department to consider whether he could run for a third term, he initially denied it, but not categorically, leaving it open as a possibility and then making a sarcastic remark.
“This would be a huge blow to democracy, wouldn’t it? Well, maybe I’m just trying to destroy the democratic norms that are talked about so much, but I’ve seen over the years that they’ve been steadily eroded and nobody was talking about it before.”
He acknowledged that supporters insist that he seek a third term, but stated that it was very difficult.
"'Let's be serious, running again is not something I'm looking to do and I think it would be a very difficult thing to accomplish."
