"Let's stop fighting today," Ukraine responds to Putin's call for a ceasefire: Why wait until May 8?

Ukraine has reacted to Russia's proposal for a three-day ceasefire next week.

Kiev's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, in a post on the X platform, stressed that if Russia "really wants peace," it must immediately stop all hostilities.

Sybiha raised questions about Moscow's motives, asking why it should wait until May 8 to initiate the ceasefire, if Russia's goal is peace and not simply organizing a parade.

"If Russia really wants peace, it must stop the fighting immediately. Why wait until May 8? If the war can be stopped now and from any date for 30 days, then show that the goal is real, not just a parade."

"Ukraine is ready to support a stable and complete ceasefire. This is what we have repeatedly proposed, for at least 30 days," he said.
