A serious incident struck France on Monday afternoon, after a powerful explosion in a four-story residential building in the town of Trévoux, in the Ain department. As a result of the incident, at least six people lost their lives, including two children aged three and five, who died from their injuries.
Local authorities initially reported five injured people who received medical treatment at the scene, without giving details on their condition. According to the newspaper Le Progrès, the two youngest victims suffered cardiac arrest after the explosion.
Local media reports that the explosion is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak. The incident occurred on the ground floor of the residential building, in the Beluizon area.
