Von der Leyen: The longer Putin continues the war, the higher the costs for Russia will be

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed that support for Kiev and strengthening European defense preparedness are the top priorities of what is called the 'Alliance of the Willing', a coalition of states that seeks to exert greater pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
Von der Leyen briefed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other leaders of the 'Alliance of the Wanted' on European planning priorities. She stressed that the proposal to use frozen Russian assets through a loan to compensate Ukraine for damages is 'complicated' but would significantly increase the cost of the war for Moscow.
"The longer Putin continues his war, shedding blood, taking lives and destroying Ukrainian infrastructure, the higher the costs for Russia will be," the Commission president stressed.
She added that ties within Europe are 'stronger than ever' and member states will continue to stand 'united, supporting Ukraine and defending Europe'.
