The 2400-year-old mosaic is discovered in Greece
A surprising archaeological find has occurred during construction work in Greece. It is a 2,400-year-old floor mosaic depicting two satyrs, naked male figures with animal features, engaged in a dance.

This work was found in excellent condition in Eretria, an ancient city on the island of Euboea. Researchers date the building that housed the mosaic to the mid-4th century BC, based on similarities to the nearby "House of Mosaics."

The two figures represented are satyrs, mythological creatures associated with the god Dionysus, symbol of fertility and pleasure. One of the two satyrs is shown playing a double flute, while the other, the older one, dances to the beat of the music.

The mosaic, in addition to being a work of art of considerable value, also provides important information about the daily life of the ancient Greeks. The room in which it was found, with a raised floor on three sides, was probably used for banquets and parties, as suggested by the scene presented.

This discovery confirms the existence, in the classical period, of luxurious private residences in Eretria. Further excavations may reveal new details about the life and culture of this fascinating city.
