Zelensky: Kiev is ready to abandon its application for NATO membership

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was ready to abandon Kiev's bid for NATO membership in exchange for security guarantees from the United States and Europe, in a move aimed at advancing peace talks scheduled for Sunday in Berlin.
“We are talking about bilateral security guarantees between Ukraine and the United States, that is, guarantees under Article 5 (…), as well as security guarantees for us from our European partners and other countries such as Canada, Japan and others,” Zelensky told reporters in a WhatsApp conversation, according to the Financial Times.
Faced with pressure from United States President Donald Trump to sign a peace deal, which initially supported Moscow's demands, Zelensky accused Russia of dragging out the war through deadly bombing of cities and electricity and water infrastructure in Ukraine.
