Massive fire at a plastic warehouse in the Czech Republic, several firefighters injured

A massive fire engulfed a plastic landfill in the village of Rynholec, in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic, on Monday evening, forcing authorities to declare a level two alert and deploy numerous firefighting forces.
The fire, which engulfed an area of at least 450 square meters, spread rapidly due to loose plastic waste, with flames reaching up to five meters high.
Local media report that around 250 firefighters with over 100 specialized pieces of equipment were involved in the operation.
Fourteen firefighters were treated for the effects of overheating, while another was treated for burns, as a result of the extreme conditions while battling the flames.
The fire remains active on Tuesday morning, with authorities trying to stop it from spreading to other areas of the landfill.
Due to the very high temperatures, water evaporates before it reaches the flames, further complicating the intervention, a fire service spokesman said.
According to authorities, the situation at the scene continues to be serious.
