From Erion Veliaj, the Mayor of Tirana, to Sali Berisha's accusations of a " global conspiracy " led by George Soros, recent events shed light on one of the most used narratives of the opposition.
These theses, which have supported Berisha's political rhetoric for years, seem to have collapsed in the face of reality.
According to Berisha, Soros is the architect of the Justice Reform in Albania and has been personally engaged to declare him " non grata " in the United States, through an alleged alliance with Prime Minister Edi Rama. But when events shift to the Veliaj case, this chain of arguments seems to contradict itself.

According to Berisha's statements, George Soros and the Albanian judiciary are manipulated by the current government to eliminate political opponents. But the fact that Mayor Veliaj is involved in an important investigation by SPAK led by Arben Dumani, brings a logical question: If Soros controls Albanian justice, as Berisha claims, why this " captured system " cannot protect a from the closest collaborators of the government?!
The suspicions of the SPAK are for the criminal offenses " Passive corruption of high state officials or local elected officials", "Active corruption of high state officials or local elected officials", "Cleaning of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity" and "Refusal for declaration, non-declaration, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public officials, or of any other person who has legal obligation to declare".
Altin Dumani, who has been one of the prosecutors most attacked by Berisha for his work in the investigation of corruption affairs, who was even pressured by Sali Berisha by publishing his wife's photo, is now investigating Veliaj.
This fact sinks Berisha's accusations of " manipulated justice ", but it shows once again how Sali Berisha's permanent deception is the art of his politics.
Berisha's narrative that the Justice Reform is a political weapon used against him crumbles in front of the Veliaj case. If justice is really under the influence of Soros and the government, the case against the mayor of Tirana would not exist.
This situation calls into question all the propaganda built by Berisha for years, making it more of a strategy to avoid responsibility than an argument based on facts.
Ultimately, justice is not meant to protect individuals, but to follow the law, be it Berisha, Veliaj or anyone else.
