Edi Rama is treating Albanians like fools when he says that only he can integrate Albania into the European Union. This statement is not only insulting, but also untrue, as the enlargement of the EU with new countries is a policy of the European Union itself and does not depend on the desire or abilities of a single individual.
Under the leadership of Edi Rama, Albania has not taken steps towards integration, on the contrary, it has moved further away from the principles of the great European family. In these 12 years of his government, despite having almost absolute power, he has not managed to advance the reforms necessary for Albania's membership. On the contrary, according to international reports, corruption has increased, organized crime has flourished and drug trafficking has increased significantly.
Independent institutions have been weakened and placed under the control of the government, violating the principle of the separation of powers. The work of SPAK, the only one to receive praise in the latest European Union report on Albania, has been built precisely on the war that the Special Prosecution has declared against Edi Rama's government corruption, the investigations and arrests of his close associates.
Instead of implementing reforms that would bring Albania closer to the EU, Rama has built a clientelistic system, where public contracts are awarded through dubious procedures and transparency is lacking. This has led to the economy being dominated by a group of oligarchs, who take public money from the government and invest it to keep an opposition afloat, with which this majority never falls.
Therefore, Albanians should not fall prey to the propaganda that tries to create the idea that without Edi Rama, Albania cannot become part of the EU. Without a real fight against corruption, without independent institutions and without an open economy, Albania's path to the EU will remain just a dream.
All of this can be easily achieved without Edi Rama and his corrupt system in power.
