Saudi Arabia "conquers" Albanian imports/ Serbia and North Macedonia

Foreign trade in the first quarter of 2025 has undergone strong fluctuations with Albania's main partners, reflecting interesting changes in the directions of trade exchanges.

If we talk about imports, Saudi Arabia has marked a significant increase towards Albania, with a jump of 116.8% during the first three months of the year, becoming one of the partners with the highest increase in goods coming to our country. In contrast, Turkey has suffered the deepest decline with 26.9% fewer imports compared to the same period last year. The figures have dropped from 28 billion lek to only 20.5 billion.

Imports from the US also recorded significant declines, with a decrease of 17.6%, while Germany and Italy recorded smaller decreases, 9.4% and 0.3%, respectively.

However, some countries have maintained positive balances in relation to Albania. In addition to Saudi Arabia, France has also recorded growth with 10.8%, Poland with 16.1%, Serbia with 5.9%, Greece with 6.4% and China with 29%.

On the other hand, when we talk about exports, the picture is mixed. Significant declines were recorded towards Serbia by 26.4%, North Macedonia by 23.7% and Italy by 3.9%.

But not all major partners are seeing sales decline as Spain and Kosovo have returned to the destinations with the highest growth rates for Albanian exports. With 103.8% more goods to Spain and 79% more to Kosovo, these two countries have significantly improved Albania's trade balance.

Other increases were also recorded in Slovakia with 15%, China with 28%, Montenegro with 22.5%, Germany with 5.5% and Greece with 8.6%./ SCAN
