Albanian investments abroad set a new historical record in the first half of this year.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, for the 6th month of 2023, the value of investments of Albanian companies abroad reached 126 million euros, 40% more compared to the same period a year ago.
This is also the highest historical level of Albanian investments abroad, at least for the period of the statistical series of the Bank of Albania, which starts from 2008. For the most part, Albanian investments have been channeled into direct contributions to the capital of companies controlled abroad.
These capital injections accounted for more than 72% of the new flow of Albanian investments abroad. The rest consists mainly in the form of loans granted by Albanian shareholders to subsidiary companies located abroad.
This year, the foreign direct investments in Albania this year are marking record values, but, on the other hand, a similar trend is shown by the Albanian investments abroad.
However, the net balance of foreign direct investments for the 6th month of 2023 was negative, for a total value of 560 million euros, increasing by 1.8% compared to the same period last year.
The negative balance in the foreign investment account means that foreign direct inward investments in Albania remain much higher compared to Albanian investments abroad.
The statistical data on the investments of Albanian enterprises abroad are still not detailed for their geographical or sectoral distribution. For this reason, it is difficult to say precisely in which countries and in which sectors Albanian investments abroad are more widespread, or in which of the countries or sectors the strong growth of the last two years has been supported.

Meanwhile, the new flows of Albanian investments in Kosovo for the first 6 months of this year had the value of 32.7 million euros, an increase of 7.6% compared to the same period last year.
The presence of Albanian companies in Kosovo is mainly concentrated in the commercial and financial sectors.
Some of the largest Albanian operators of consumer goods distribution, retail companies, as well as banks, insurance companies and payment service operators operate in Kosovo./MONITOR
