The average cost of car repairs in Europe has increased by 20% in two years

The average cost of repairing a car is 718 euros, according to CarGarantie's annual analysis. It is the first time that the average price in Europe has exceeded 700 euros, when in 2022 the average repair price was 600 euros.

The engine is responsible for the most expensive damage to used cars, accounting for 26% of the cost (25.9% last year). The fuel system, including the turbocharger, accounted for 17.7% (up from 17.6%), followed by the electrical system (12.9% from 13.4%).

In new cars, breakdowns are largely similar, with the engine accounting for 18.4% of repair costs (down from 20.4% last year). This was followed by the electrical system at 17.8% (up from 14.7%) and the fuel system (15.5%).

In used cars, the electrical system remains the most vulnerable component, responsible for 21.5% of defects (last year it was 22.1%). This was followed by the fuel system with 18.2% and the engine with 13.5%.

In new cars, electrical system defects increased to 26.1%, compared to 20.2% in 2022.

Last year, 27.6% of used car claims occurred within the first 5,000 kilometers, while 21% of claims occurred after 25,000 kilometers. In terms of time, the majority (25.8%) of used car claims occurred only after more than 360 days.
