Journalist Arta Marku has been appointed Director of the National Center for Books and Reading.

The news was made public by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja.

Arta Marku is a journalist and literary critic with a long career in the field of culture. She began her career in 1993 with the newspaper Koha Jonë, then continued in important media such as Gazeta Shqiptare, Shekulli and Panorama, always with a focus on books and literature.

She has been the editor-in-chief of some of the most popular cultural magazines in the country, and since 2014 she has brought to the public the show “Bibliotekë” on RTSH and “Palimpsest” on Radio Tirana. Through initiatives such as “AGORA”, she has brought literature closer to the public in open and interactive spaces.

Constantly engaged in promoting reading, Marku has held numerous meetings with students in Tirana high schools and has been part of juries in important literary awards and competitions. She is also the author and translator of several works.

Minister Gonxhja stated that Arta Marku will bring to this position a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the development of books and reading in Albania. He also thanked former director Esmeralda Bardhyli for her work and contribution over the years to this institution.
