Although it is constantly increasing, the minimum wage in Albania continues to remain the lowest in European countries that implement such a policy.

According to the latest updated Eurostat data, at the beginning of 2023, the minimum wage in Albania was 297 euros/month.

This salary is 17% lower than that of North Macedonia, which is the second lowest in Europe, with data for this country available for the end of 2021. (see chart: Gross minimum wage in Europe, 6 MI 2023)

The minimum wage in Albania is already 45% lower than in Serbia, where no employee receives less than 460 euros in 2023.

In Montenegro, the minimum wage is 533 euros.

Compared to the beginning of 2018, the earliest that Eurostat reports the data, the difference between Albania's minimum wage and other countries in the region, which apply this practice, has deepened significantly.

In the first 6 months of 2018, the minimum wage in Albania was 100 euros lower than in Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. (see the graph: Progress of the gross minimum wage in the region).

While at the beginning of 2023, the minimum wage in Serbia is 192 euros higher than in Albania. An employee in Montenegro receives a minimum of 234 euros more than a minimum wage employee in Albania.

Montenegro has significantly increased the minimum wage in the last two years, from 331 euros at the end of 2021 to 532 euros currently. Even in Serbia, the minimum wage is 460 euros, from 366 euros at the end of 2021.

The same differences apply to average salaries in the region, according to a previous Monitor survey, where on average Albanian employees are paid 40% less than in other countries of the region.
