After a 3-year period of suspension of European funds for Albanian agriculture, developments from Brussels on March 9 show that the IPARD III Program is entering a new phase, receiving the green light to resume funding for our country's farmers and agribusinesses.

The Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, together with the Director General of Agriculture in Brussels, Elisabet Werner, looking at the needs of Albanian agriculture, have jointly drafted the terms of how the 146 million euros of the IPARD III program will be distributed.

Special priority this time will be given to the modernization of farms by applying technology that increases food security and reduces production costs. The IPARD III program is intended to be divided into 9 measures, 5 of which will be applied for the first time in agriculture:

Investments in agricultural farms; Agro-processing and marketing of agricultural products; Diversification of the rural economy; Technical assistance and institutional capacity building; Agri-environmental and climate measures; LEADER approach; investments in rural infrastructure; Advisory services for farmers; Forest management and development

These agricultural sectors are considered essential for increasing the value of Albanian products in European markets.

Meanwhile, food security is the next test that Albania must pass to become part of the European family. Investments in Albanian farms with 112 million euros from European citizens and 34 million euros from our budget are expected to boost the production of healthy products.
